Swamplands—Storefront Reader

2025

Swamplands Reader reflects on conversations had and insights gleaned throughout Storefront's 2024–25 thematic exhibition cycle.

The publication dwells on the murky entanglements of water, land, and power—from the Meadowlands to the Gulf of Mexico. It features writing and visual materials by a range of authors and artists: Yásnaya Elena Aguilar Gil, Merve Anil, Andrea Ballestero, Jelisa Blumberg, Imani Jacqueline Brown, Canal Street Research Association, Gold Carson Sánchez, Filipa César, Jingru (Cyan) Cheng, colectivo amasijo, Cooking Sections, Chris Cyrille-Isaac, José Esparza Chong Cuy, Virginia Hanusik, Finn Jubak, lan Kumekawa, Jessica Kwok, Aurora Levins Morales, Sydney Rose Maubert, Laura A. Ogden, Marina Otero Verzier, Ahmed Ozsever, Daniela Pérez, Lucia Pietroiusti, Gala Porras-Kim, Jerónimo Reyes-Retana, Guillermo Ruiz de Teresa, Fred Schmidt-Arenales, Simon Shim-Sutcliffe, Cornelius Tulloch, Pedro Uc Be, Sónia Vaz Borges, Sean Vegezzi, Tania Ximena, and Chen Zhan. Most contributions are new commissions.

An alternative to an exhibition catalog, the Storefront Reader can exist independently from the gallery exhibitions and is meant to spark further inquiry.
